2022 Interrelate Years 4-6

interrelate

Morisset Public School has made a commitment to fund all students in Years 4-6 to attend Interrelate programs. These programs support teachers to cover mandatory content from the NSW PDHPE K-10 syllabus. The program runs over three days.

Interrelate has the acknowledgement of government, education and health authorities to provide relationship education in schools. They have been teaching sexuality and relationship education to young people for over 90 years and have a reputation for non-discriminatory and open teaching on sensitive issues.

Their objective is to ensure young people know the range of possible consequences of relationships and assist in help-seeking behaviour. Research shows that if young people are given accurate and reliable information, they are more able to make good choices. Each program is outlined below:

Year 4 – ‘Me and the Big Wide World’ is a program designed to explore and create awareness of families through discussing what it means to be in a family and develop knowledge of family differences. Students gain awareness of a range of different values within the community as well as further information on human anatomy, body parts and foetal development. The program assists students to advance their understanding of strategies to be safe and protective behaviours.

Year 5 - ‘Moving into the Teen Years’ explores a range of adolescent issues and offers a comprehensive sexuality and relationship education program designed specifically for this important time in life.

Year 6 - ‘Moving into the Teen Years’ explores a range of adolescent issues and offers a comprehensive sexuality and relationship education program designed specifically to prepare for High School.

If you would like to discuss the content of the program further or be sent a brochure outlining the correlation to the NSW PDHPE Syllabus please contact the school and speak to Mr Groves.
