Kindergarten Transition 2022 – 2023 Program

This program is designed to encourage a seamless transition to school for both children and parents, as well as an opportunity to learn more about commencing school and the routines involved.  In addition, it is a chance for us to learn more about our new students and their families. It is important that all families take advantage of these sessions.  If work or other commitments prevent your attendance, please contact the school office to arrange an alternate appointment.

Parents and carers gain a better understanding of school readiness and how to best help your child prepare for primary school. P & C will be present to provide information regarding our school canteen, uniforms, fundraising and how you as parents can become involved in our P & C community.

Session 1 – School Tour - Friday November 11 2022 - 9:15am to 10:15am

Parents and children meet in the Library for a welcome from our Principal, Mrs Warham and to meet the Year 6 Buddies.  We will then complete a brief tour of the school grounds with their buddies, followed by free choice activities in the Kindergarten classroom. Parents are welcome to stay in the classroom for this visit as it is a new environment for many.

Session 2 – English Focus - Friday November 18 2022 - 9:15am to 10:15am

After meeting in the Library, children move to the Kindergarten Classroom for an English session including stories, activities and songs.  Parents attend a session outlining how to help your child with reading and writing at ‘big school’.  School systems and expectations will be shared at this session.  Our school Counsellor and school Chaplain will be available to discuss their roles. A representative from South Lakes Community Centre will be invited along to outline support that is available in our community.

Session 3 – Maths Focus - Friday November 25 2022 - 9:15am to 10:15am

Again, start the morning in the Library then children move to the classroom for a Mathematics session with activities and songs. Parents attend a session outlining how to help your child learn about numbers through play.

Session 4 – Friday December 2 2022 - 9:15am to 11:00am – meet in the Library

Please pack your child’s hat for this session as they will play outside. We have extended this session until 11:00am. Children will have the opportunity to order their lunch prior to the session and receive their first lunch order.

Parents do not need to stay at school for this session. We recommend going somewhere for a relaxing cuppa before picking your child up from the Library at 11:00am. The school uniform shop will be open following this session.

If you have a child coming to school or want to make an enquiry about next year or beyond please contact our office on 02 49731435 or email morisset-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au
