2025 PBL Update

PBL Circle Logo

In response to our ongoing feedback processes, we have reviewed our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Recognition system in relation to licence points and the end of year Sapphire day. Along with parent feedback, I visited classrooms to gather student voice and was extremely impressed with the mature and well thought out solutions presented.

Question 1: If a student does not lose a point all year, should they be recognised/ rewarded with Sapphire level? Answer - A unanimous 'yes'.

Question 2: If a student loses one point over the year, should they still be allowed to participate at Sapphire level? Answer - Overwhelmingly 'yes'.

Question 3: How do we make this fair? A range of responses were provided, and the following agreement was reached; if a student loses points and is placed on P-plate, they should not receive the Sapphire level recognition. If they remain on Gold, they can then attend Sapphire level.

How will this look? Licence Points:

2024 - 1 point deducted meant a student lost their Gold Licence and was moved to P-Plate, always with the opportunity to earn the point back each week.

2025 Adjustment - 2 points deducted means a student will lose their Gold Licence and will move to P-Plate. The opportunity remains to earn points back each week.

Gold 11-12 points - P Plate 6-10 points - L Plate 0-5 points.

Recognition Days will continue to occur at the end of every term. Participation is based on which licence level students are on. An example from 2024: Gold received popcorn, drink and a movie. P Plate received popcorn and a movie. L Plate received a movie.

Sapphire Level (formally Super Stars)

2024: Those who did not lose their Gold Licence attended an offsite excursion paid for by the school. Students who lost their Gold Licence remained at school with activities on site for the day. We recognise the impact this had on school attendance and motivation for students not attending.

2025: Sapphire Recognition Event will be merged with our Term 4 Recognition Day – not a separate day and onsite. On this day, students who have achieved Sapphire level will be provided with an additional opportunity. We have booked an external provider to come in for an amazing day of outdoor activities and fun which all students will enjoy.

It is important to know that when removing points, we consider students with additional needs, frequently not removing points for actions deemed within their level of control and capability. Students make mistakes and this is okay. With all students, through conversation, we use the Restorative Practice framework to encourage students to restore any harm caused and recognise the impact their actions have had on others.

We appreciate your feedback and welcome your contributions to enhance learning and wellbeing for every student.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to call the office.

Kind regards,
